Malware Threat Hits Facebook

Posted by hpool in Tech News

Last weekend was a busy time for Facebook admins a thousands of users were being tricked into installing malware by a malicious application circulating via Facebook.  The new malware attack inserts a link on the user’s news feed claiming to be the “sexiest video ever”.

Once the user clicks the link, a program tries to access the user’s info.  If the user allows access then the program prompts the user to download and install a new FLV video player in the form of a .exe file.

The file is actually an application, called Hotbar, which displays ads based on browsing habits.  The application then posts messages on the walls of the user’s friends.

As always, you must be mindful of what you are clicking.  Make certain anything you choose to install is a legitimate download and make sure you are using the latest and recently patched anti-virus utilities.

Do you live between Rockport or Corpus Christi and need a new antivirus program?  We are an official AVG anti-virus retailer and would be glad to help setup the latest antivirus solutions to protect your computers and networks from future issues.
